Attila Bucsi returns to TCR Eastern Europe, willing to fight for victories

2024. April 23.

After making a victorious debut in the final round of last year’s TCR Eastern Europe, Attila Bucsi, the 16-year-old racer from M1RA, is set to start on the grid at this season’s opener at Balaton Park. Bucsi aims to continue in the TCR Eastern European Championship where he left off last year, entering the fight for victories.

At just 16, Bucsi showcased outstanding performance at the TCR Eastern Europe season finale in Brno last September, securing the fastest time in qualifying and winning the first race. Over the winter, M1RA, which has been developing Bucsi’s career since 2020, worked to ensure the young racer could compete from the first round of this season – behind the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR with the number 33.

„Last year, I had the opportunity to introduce myself in the championship, which was a very useful experience and also successful in terms of results,“ stated Attila Bucsi. „I won’t lie, my goal is to be in contention for victories this year. The most important thing is to maximize my opportunities and learn from my mistakes. I am aware that despite winning, my debut last year was not flawless. This year’s field is the strongest I have ever competed in, filled with great drivers and teams, which really motivates me.“

„It’s been seven months since my last race, but that’s the same for everyone else who hasn’t competed in other championships, so I’m not at a disadvantage,“ the M1RA racer noted. „During the offseason, I placed even greater emphasis on physical preparation, on building the right stamina because, for example, the intense heat was challenging in Brno last year. I also prepared on a simulator and managed to win the MNASZ-HUNESZ National iRacing Championship, which was good preparation for the season.“

The first race weekend of TCR Eastern Europe will be held in Hungary, but the home track does not automatically provide a significant advantage for Bucsi as it is a new circuit on which he has not driven much.

„I participated in one test at Balaton Park, so I don’t have much experience with the track, but I feel we could have a good weekend,“ Bucsi hoped optimistically. „I am surrounded by world-renowned experts and enjoy the support of the Hungarian Motorsport Academy, so I only need to focus on driving, which is a big help. I am not looking any further ahead than the first weekend. Of course, I have dreams too; I want to reach the highest level possible, but it is a journey from race to race, so I focus on what I can influence. And that is always the next race.“

The Hungarian Motorsport Academy is an educational system for young talent, established and operated by the HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency, part of the Széchenyi University Group.
