2021
We joined the championship of future in 2021. That year saw the debut of Pure ETCR, the first electric touring car championship, which M1RA witnessed first-hand as a founding participant. As an official partner of the renowned Italian car-building team Romeo Ferraris, we started under the joint name of developing and operating two Giulia ETCR race cars.
Not only was electric propulsion a novelty, but the completely new way of running the championship was a major challenge for the teams. We were working with technology so fresh that we had our first cars on the track in March, just a month or two before the season started. This had an impact on the first two rounds, as the two rival teams had been developing their cars for two or three years.
However, by the third round, we had managed to make up a significant part of the deficit from the start, and in Copenhagen, Philipp Eng of Romeo Ferraris-M1RA was the best driver of the weekend and our team the most successful team of the weekend. Finally, at the end of the five-round season, second place in the Manufacturers’ Championship was secured.
Alongside this prestigious international project, we continued our talent development programme for talented Hungarian drivers in the Swift Cup Europe in 2021. Attila Bucsi and the team started the second year together and his progress was unbroken: he won four of the six qualifying races, won five of the 15 races and finished on the podium in ten of them. On the basis of his results on the track, he would have won the absolute championship, but as he was not yet 16, he could not do so.
Alongside Attila Bucsi, we started working with 15-year-old Gergő Rácz, who took his first absolute race win of the season. Partnering the two young drivers, we gave our world champion simulator racer Gergő Báldi the chance to prove himself at the wheel of a real race car, and he was in contention for the championship for most of the season despite having to miss the first round due to a crown virus infection. In the end, he missed out on the year-end podium because he did not take part in the final weekend, making his TCR debut for our team in Brno in the TCR Eastern Europe.
